Classes of information operations
- Information operations is the catch-all for any information-based operation.
- Psychological operations are operations designed to persuade, change, and influence some audience. Its goal is to enact behavioral changes.
Scopes
- Strategic: can be thought of as global.
- Operational/theater: aimed at a particularly large area.
- Tactical: small, localized operations.
Tactical operations roll up into an operational area, which are all part of a strategic plan.
Attribution
- White: These are overtly attributable to a particular source, e.g. the source is disseminating propaganda and openly admitting to it.
- Grey: These either conceal their source or attempt to remain anonymous.
- Black: These operations will pretend to be from a different source than the original one. Organization A may broadcast propaganda identifying itself as coming from Organization B.
